Nasi Lemak Kukus at Upper Thomson Road | Openrice Invitation

There’s time to play, time to work, there’s also a time to eat delicious food.

I got an invitation to attend a food tasting event by OpenRice which was a first for me.

Upon reaching Nasi Lemak Kukus located at 908 Upper Thomson Road , i was greeted by Mr Calvin and asked to join in with the rest on the front table specially reserved for the session. It was yet again another pleasure to meet up with new bloggers in the expand my connection in the blogosphere.

The start of the event was followed with a introduction to the event and getting to know one another, and what is our favourite food.

Hi, My name is Nasri, and I’m  an ‘anything under the sun’ blogger. My favourite food is Nasi Ayam (Chicken Rice)

yeah uhmmm okay…that’s what i said (very brief) 😛 ,partly because I was shy, and i didn’t know what to say, but hey i actually found other bloggers introduction even more interesting that mine. 😀

Mr Calvin himself, has a taste for pasta, and italian food,he talks about perfecting its exquisite taste during the session.  Another blogger likes Ban Mian, she could eat that for the rest of her life and WOW there’s so much more to the discussion of food when it comes to their favourite.

I also met Lina, a really amazing halal food blogger, who does a lot of reviews on halal food , and Rena who runs a lifestyle blog.

As the sun starts to set as the sound of the Mahgrib prayers starts to play on the radio, it was time to eat.

Varieties

The variety of dishes that was served was like ordering Nasi Padang, or something similar our Singapore’s coffeeshop stall. Then there’s also a burger stall, and the Nasi Lemak corner section. Indulge in your favorite food, or try something new altogether

Things to try

  • Nasi Lemak – The rice is cooked in a traditonal way of steaming the rice, so that the fragrant is seeped into the grains of rice. A longer method, but definitely nicer. It tastes chewy yet its not sticky.
  • Specialty Rendang – nice gravy
  • Nasi Lemak sweet sambal chilli
  • Power Burger (*yet to try)
  • Vietnamese Drip Coffee*

The Vietnamese Drip Coffee, is a specialty in Nasi Lemak Kukus, there’s a cup covered with a pot on top that filters the coffee, and the it basically drips into the cup filled with a milk.

Here’s a video i took.

Price

The price of the food is reasonable. My best advice is to go for the food you want to taste, an average meal can be about $7-10. Rice is also free flow.

People

Coming there feels like you’re a part of the small but happening family. The staffs were so friendly, and they made me feel like home, with the way they interact. I managed to take photos with the staffs there, and they were all such fun people to talk and laugh with

  1. bro can i share something i been charge over the price
nasi lemak ikin bilis fish cake and 1 scope sambal prawn it a small prawn
and 1 hot kalamansi drink $11 huuh

    • Hey sorry to hear that. I didnt know they charge thst expensive just for ikan bilis and sambal prawn. Did you ask why it was until $11?

Usually meat will cost about $2. The sambal costs as well. There’s a price for certain dishes, even if you take a small portion of it.

The prices are steeper than the usual coffee shop nasi padang, but I dont believe it is that expensive.

Comment Below here, you awesome one.
