How You Can Make The World A Better Place Now? | Better World Project

The Better World Project

The Better World Project

We are living in a world with issues still left untold and it needs addressing.

You may find an issue more crucial to life as compared to others. We all have our own views when we see it, AND If we voice out and get ourselves heard, we can spread a vast awareness and share our views together.

In search of trying to understand how we can improve ourselves and our world, I started a small project called The Better World Project.

It’s my first time doing a project for my blog which involves going out of the internet life and asking people questions. I was nervous like hell because I didn’t expect it to be so scary. It’s also hard because people might think that I’m some salesman or promoter, getting the palm’s up and No’s before I even mentioned anything.

Still, it triggered me that if I want answers, I need to go for it. I want to understand what is it that concerns our people.

With the help of my friends Sodrudin and Rasif, we went to town, from Scape to Orchard Road with our whiteboards and sweets to ask people a simple question.

What do you think can help to make the world a better place?

I’ve got to say that some voiced out really good replies.

It’s amazing how people can have a diversity of answers to contribute. Some that I find really true and unconsciously didn’t even think about. Some gave concerns about our environment, while others tackles on our society and how we treat ourselves.

I would like to give thanks to the supporters for this project, and for spreading out your message for others to look and think about.

There are still issues out there that we are afraid to voice out how we feel. The world needs our help make her a better place.

You can make the world a better place through awareness. Share your views with your neighbours, friends, community .Facebook it, Twitter it out, blog about it. Even better, participate in the activity, and Insta-pic or Insta-vid it.

What is yours? Share it with me in the comments!

What the JOBS movie teaches me?

Steve Jobs poster quote

Steve Jobs Quote

The picture says it all. I’ve got to say that the JOBS movie really inspired me and allow me to look at life in a different perspective.

Talking about JOBS reminded me of how we are sometimes so bound to what other people think or do. To do something that other people are not doing is considered abnormal.

How I see a typical story normally goes would be having a group of people you hang out with considering someone an outcast because he plays with rubrics, or he doesn’t share the same idea like the rest do . As long as you’re not siding that person, you’re safe, and in order not be an outcast, you choose to play it safe and do what others do.

I urge you. Don’t be the next Monkey See, Monkey Do. What if you are the one being outcasted?

Trust in your views.

I could consider myself a misfit. I’ve fallen and fought the battle of my early secondary school days,  and with enough criticism (nerd, fatty bom bom) that could make me want to just give up on life.Though that world that surrounded my life seemed small, I dreamt BIG.

I told myself that I do not have to worry about not fitting in, because life goes on. I do not give up at the point when I’m falling, and push myself back up. I took in comments and ignore the rude remarks or LAUGH about it and make it my fulfilling desire to change these things others might think I won’t be able to or think I’m SIAO.

Reading the Meta Secret by Mel Gill, has allowed me to understand the situation I went through. Imagine our lives  and what we are feeling like a thermometer. What we feel when we’re down and happy is the same thing. It’s only at a different degree.

We are able to choose how we move up and down that degree by allowing it to flow through us and understand that there’s ups and down’s in life. Understand how to react when a situation arises.

We know it in our heart we shouldn’t be afraid to fall yet, we’re always afraid of failure.

It might seem illogical or going to affect how people think of you, but the ones who sees things differently benefits from life in the long run. You allow yourself to change your world and also inspire other people to understand your world.

The question is will you do it for your own sake because you believe in your ability, or are you going to fall back and give up when the times are rough?

Side Note:

I blogged about overcoming my perspective of not being able watching movies alone. I find watching movies alone weird. That excuse of not having friends has led me to missing a lot of good movies.

Thanks to The Movie Club for the amazing event  for JOBS movie and poster as well as the nice dinner.

The movie club dinner

ps. Thank you for letting me be the crazy one. It has made me to what I am today.

Nasi Lemak Kukus at Upper Thomson Road | Openrice Invitation

There’s time to play, time to work, there’s also a time to eat delicious food.

I got an invitation to attend a food tasting event by OpenRice which was a first for me.

Upon reaching Nasi Lemak Kukus located at 908 Upper Thomson Road , i was greeted by Mr Calvin and asked to join in with the rest on the front table specially reserved for the session. It was yet again another pleasure to meet up with new bloggers in the expand my connection in the blogosphere.

Openrice SG goodie bag pictures

The start of the event was followed with a introduction to the event and getting to know one another, and what is our favourite food.

Hi, My name is Nasri, and I’m  an ‘anything under the sun’ blogger. My favourite food is Nasi Ayam (Chicken Rice)

yeah uhmmm okay…that’s what i said (very brief) 😛 ,partly because I was shy, and i didn’t know what to say, but hey i actually found other bloggers introduction even more interesting that mine. 😀

Mr Calvin himself, has a taste for pasta, and italian food,he talks about perfecting its exquisite taste during the session.  Another blogger likes Ban Mian, she could eat that for the rest of her life and WOW there’s so much more to the discussion of food when it comes to their favourite.

I also met Lina, a really amazing halal food blogger, who does a lot of reviews on halal food , and Rena who runs a lifestyle blog.

As the sun starts to set as the sound of the Mahgrib prayers starts to play on the radio, it was time to eat.

Varieties

The variety of dishes that was served was like ordering Nasi Padang, or something similar our Singapore’s coffeeshop stall. Then there’s also a burger stall, and the Nasi Lemak corner section. Indulge in your favorite food, or try something new altogether

Things to try

  • Nasi Lemak – The rice is cooked in a traditonal way of steaming the rice, so that the fragrant is seeped into the grains of rice. A longer method, but definitely nicer. It tastes chewy yet its not sticky.
  • Specialty Rendang – nice gravy
  • Nasi Lemak sweet sambal chilli
  • Power Burger (*yet to try)
  • Vietnamese Drip Coffee*

The Vietnamese Drip Coffee, is a specialty in Nasi Lemak Kukus, there’s a cup covered with a pot on top that filters the coffee, and the it basically drips into the cup filled with a milk.

Here’s a video i took.

Price

The price of the food is reasonable. My best advice is to go for the food you want to taste, an average meal can be about $7-10. Rice is also free flow.

People

Coming there feels like you’re a part of the small but happening family. The staffs were so friendly, and they made me feel like home, with the way they interact. I managed to take photos with the staffs there, and they were all such fun people to talk and laugh with

5 things to help you understand Ramadan better

Ramadan is not just about not eating or drinking. Understanding its purpose and the reason behind it will help you understand why Muslims fast during Ramadan,.

Boy fasting during fasting month

Fasting

Fasting is done from the start of dawn till sunset for one month. Muslims still do go about our daily lives as per normal.

A few closed ones said to me that we also fast to remember the suffering of the kids who are in starvation not having enough food in their daily lives. By fasting we can understand how they feel better and be more appreciative of what we have.

Forming good habits

“Fasting is not merely to go without food and drink; fasting is to abstain from idle talk and obscene language”

It’s a good month to practice self-discipline, and by that it also helps Muslims to learn to do good deeds. No swearing or cursing, smoking.

Its a good time to tell them to be patient, to control our sexual desires, (which means no sex during the month) also to be kind and humble. This i feel with context of Singaporeans to help a lot, because complaining is a common thing; and overcoming people’s bad judgement by being calm.

It also teaches Muslims to tell the truth.

Purify the heart

During the month of Ramadan, it is believed that God locks up the gate of hell, which means that the devils are no longer being able to tempt the people into doing sins. Whatever we do is made with our own choice ‘without the devil’s work’.

Muslims focus on being active with helping out with the poor, doing charitable events, instead of getting involved with sexual pleasures or enjoying ourselves by listening to loud music. In this time of the year, Muslims come together to pray and recite the Quran in mosques often.

Bonding with People

The thing that i enjoy about Ramadan, is the bonding between family and friends, everyone will be busy helping out with the food or dishes, and at times we do go out together to restaurants in a huge group, to break fast together. It helps to create bonding and sharing good sessions.

It doesn’t matter if you’re Chinese or Indian or in a different religion, we welcome you to also try to break fast with us to share the moment. It’ll be better if you can also feel how we feel by fasting for a day.

To celebrate the end of Ramadan

The best thing about ending of Ramadan is that we get to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri or Eid ul-Fitr (festivity of breaking the fast). It is to also celebrate the endurance we face having a month of self-discipline, withstanding obstacles along the way mentally and physically, and return to our normal eating routine again.

Could you spot the life lessons here? Did you learn anything new? Share with me down below the comments section! 🙂

Why is the 2013 Singapore Blog Awards Incredibly Awesome?

IMG 5018

I’ve never been to a bloggers award ceremony.

Despite years of blogging for the fun of it, I’ve never really tried to find out if there was even awards for such thing, but this time round, i managed to get invited for the ceremony as part of event coverage thanks to OMY.SG.

My ‘jaw dropped’, when i entered Shanghai Dolly, surprised to experience the glam entering the big sized doors. It felt even more weird when i realised the amount of media and coverage they had on the event.

Bloggers was in their 60’s theme, guys in their hippie costume, AGOGO, afro-style hair, and ladies in their striking and/or flowery 60’s dress, and out of all that, there i was, in the corner with a long grey sleeve and beige pants from Uniqlo 🙂

Despite all that ‘weirdness’ , I was relieved to have Tiffany ‘Orange’ , Carine, and Meryl from the previous Domino Pizza event meet-up to accompany me.

Pre-Award Ceremony
The ambience felt ‘atas’ (high end). There were bouncers ‘guarding’ the event, media with video cameras, lights, action. Large posters, banners showcasing finalists and the SBA award ceremony. Nice gentlemen’s and ladies with their suit serving the guests drinks, and also a even a nice photo booth with props for us to join in the 60’s movement.

Photo Booth SBA

Award Ceremony
The event was followed through with a series of awards given out to finalists of each of the blog depending on the type of categories they were in. There were a lot of awards given so I didn’t get a hold of who won what, thankfully enough, Alvinology’s post helped out on this, so behold the very good list of bloggers.

Pictures with Other Bloggers/Celebrities
A good reason to go to the event was this. It felt really good to be a part of a blogger’s community, meet new friends, know people who’s been doing it for years, doing an awesome job at blogging. It feels even better being able to take photos with them. SBA award with bloggersWith Carine, ShuHui, Orange and Meryl998840 10201542464303242 189556482 n264408 10201542465903282 785188817 nIMG 5016With Forest.IMG 5038Finally happen to meet Mitsueki in person, after following her on her blog for sometime.

Dance Catwalks
It was entertaining watching finalists doing catwalks of the 60’s theme. There’s trademark in each of them, and we had a good laugh and winner was decided by giving the loudest cheer.IMG 5074Mr Smith with his ‘real’ hair.IMG 5083Mr Uncle Char Kway Teow.IMG 5106Policeman in the 60’s (WINNER)IMG 5096Ninja Sisters SG in shiny dresses

Goodie Bag
To top all that, there were still goodie bag with vouchers and small gifts from sponsors for the event at the end of the day.

To end this post,
The event was incredibly awesome because I feel it has allows bloggers to challenge themselves to be creative and find inspiration. Bloggers work hard to deliver time and effort to create good content for readers, they too deserve a good prize.

I’m already happy to be able to see Singapore Blog Awards 2013 without participating in any of the awards,  because  I was able to see and now get to know more of the one’s who won, and hopefully learn more of their blogging techniques.

I hope with this, you were able to also felt how i felt being there. Are you also a blogger from Singapore? Do you plan to participate in the awards or something similar this coming year or the next year?
