After spending time with a group of people, do you feel energized and ready for anything or do you want to hide in the corner with a good book?
You know, after spending time with a group of people, sometimes it really feels kinda both. At times, I will feel like I’m ready to do explore more with this group that I have because it feels great to be around them. It makes me feel appreciated to know that there are people around me who’s willing to spend time to go out and have fun, and that’s where the energy kicks in
Yet at the same time it does feel like after there’s too much of people, that you just feel it’s too much to handle. Maybe also because there isn’t much to talk about. At that point of time, I’ll take out a book and catch up on reading.
Write about your first name: Are you named after someone or something? Are there any stories or associations attached to it? If you had the choice, would you rename yourself?
Nasri. My full name is Nasri Nasir, ‘Nasir’ being my dad’s name. That’s how they normally do it. My name goes first, then my father’s name.
I’ve a few stories behind my name. Mum told me that they named me after a guy called Nazri Nasir, a retired football player in Singapore whom i believe was popular among the Soccer community, in Singapore. I knew very little of him except that he was quite the legend, winning a few tournaments in Asia.
I think back then, my parents might have look up to him, and since the name was so popular, my dad ‘Nasir’ decides to give me that name, except changing the Z with and S, but why? I have no idea. Maybe it might sound nicer, or unique, or could have been because they wanted me to be a soccer player, a legend.
My dad used to be a goalkeeper back during his younger days, that’s what he said, or at least that’s what I know so far, maybe that’s why he named me that way. It could also be because my name and his name, is just switching the letter ” I and R “.
I think i have to say, not all kids are given a chance to be wanted by their parents to play soccer, but my parents used to send me over for soccer school training, when i was at 9 or so, but being the so ‘lost in my own world’ type of person, i found talking to the birds near the soccer field during training much more interesting then playing soccer itself, eventually having me lost interest in the game and not attending the classes, and so i guess they’ve agreed then that I’m not a ‘soccer’ person. (Sorry Mum and Dad! )
In Arabic, Nasri would mean ‘of Victory’ , that’s what I managed to found out. If that was what they thought of when trying to find me a name, then that would be a really amazing name. Of Victory!
Victory it shall be, by the power invested in me, the name of Nasri’ you shall be victorious!
Also, when meeting newly met strangers who ask me what’s my name, I would answer “Nasri” and responses i might get would be like, “you mean like the famous soccer, Samir Nasri?”
I would gladly then say “yeah like that Samir Nasri”
and even though I’m not much of a soccer person, I do occasionally support the guy who m I’ve the same name with, whom used to be with Arsenal back then, though now he’s with Manchester City. Still support Arsenal though when there’s a show going on.
So, in theory, does having a name ‘Nasri’ links to soccer?
I’ve decided to take a step further to find out, if other ‘Nasri’s out there’ are soccer players, and
If you could switch blogs with any blogger for a week, with whom would you switch and why?
Kosovar kids (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
If I was given a week, I would like to write for someone who helps other people, goes around the world for a cause, and for a change. I think that would be really helpful. I could do my best to write how he or she does, and post it on their behalf, maybe someone similar to Lifeoutofthebox.
I think I’d like to try being the blogger who’s constantly interacting with people helping out the people in need. I’d like to try to help out with bullying problems, kids who needs education, in need of better medical facilities, and update his or her readers on about real time situations.
Why? I feel that because these people are really just amazing bloggers, who are willing to go to such an extent to give themselves out to the world. They could be the one who makes little or makes a lot of difference, yet still they’re constantly engaging readers to know, updating readers by probably helping to raise fund.By connecting them with other readers to create awareness, I think that would make opportunity for even more help.
I think that wouldn’t just make a great blog to read and post, but also a good journey in life that I would like to experience. Putting a smile on their faces 🙂
I might not be able to travel the world now, but hopefully one day when the time comes, I would love to just go around, and make a change.
Daily prompts comes out with good questions, and for today, the topic is ;
Tell us about the most surprising helping hand you’ve ever received.
The most surprising helping hand huh, Hmmmm. Good question!
There was a time, the land before time, where i wanted to feel better. I wanted to feel more muscular and i felt like i wanted to go and train myself and work out. I was so eager to go the gym at school, but at the same time i felt quite intimidated by the people there, those guys who were bigger than me, with their huge arms, comparing them to my skinny arms, every now and then.
I didn’t know what to do or where to start. I started following people blindly, and copy what they do, and i was already struggling halfway through each set. The cold stares didn’t help either. I didn’t know what i was doing, really.
After some time going to the gym, i kept seeing the regulars who were always there and one time, I was approached by a few people at different times who’s training in the gym, and surprisingly they came up to me and decided to help me out with my weight training and push me harder so i can get the best reps possible. I can’t carry heavy for nuts,so they told me to start slowly with a lower weight.
Never be afraid to start small, and light.
and i also realised later that’s its not really about the size of that metal plates that matters but about doing it right.
Some other important thing that helped was they had find the time to explain the proper technique, like not to shift your body while doing hammer curls, example.
They also taught me breathing techniques and when to breathe in and out. The good advice they gave me allowed me to understand that going to the gym, is not just about working out, its also about being humble, and helping each other out whenever possible.
They literally gave me a helping hand, while doing my set, to help my push my weights when i was struggling.
I think its just that common courtesy of gyming, and i think that its a good thing to practice over now and then.
Today, the daily prompt asks, to tell and talk about an unconventional love in my life, I find that a little hard to extract at first, especially after I had just explained the recent topic about Love, and how I expressed my LOVE with Mum, on Mother’s day, so daily prompt now asks for another love question,
Wow. Okay. 🙂
It took me sometime to think through this, and i had to scroll through other daily prompt bloggers to get the understanding of what this post was actually about
To my understanding, i guess unconventional love would be something that’s loving something out of the norm, at least that’s what i got from googling unconventional love stories.
I love the moon. Really. I once had the feeling that the moon was really alive like a princess stuck in a far away distance , and every time when I’m sad, she would be there to smile for me. If i had did something wrong, she would have looked away, or whenever I forget to talk to her, and say hi, she would have a frown on her face. I also felt that she was the one who understood how i felt, so living at the era, at that point of time, really made me love the moon so much. She would have said goodbye every time i go to sleep, and I would have to wait for her to come and see me at night. Only at some point of time, I wouldn’t be able to see her completely, but when she’s full, she’s giving all her attention.
Though now she might have a deeper connection with astronauts.
I also think i have an unconventional love for other things like the flowers growing among the trees, because they bring vibrancy, and make me feel more bright and not so dull all the time. I also love the lights that light up the lonely streets at night because I’m quite afraid of all the blind darkness. I love my laptop so much, and i have to talk to her a lot of else she would hang in the middle of my project. 🙂
Tech-wise, I love the technology. I love the mindset, of having robots, and even cooler technology, like drones and touchable screens, (just think of Ironman 3 if you’re not sure what I’m talking about ) though i don’t expect them to turn to a version of Terminator or similar to it (hopefully not), but i really like the fact that they’re thinking about it. Just recently, they used to have this idea of having huge receivers that they are able to communicate with another person, now they call in mobile phones.
With dreams like this, i think people would really want to go and try ways of achieving the impossible making it possible.
Today’s daily prompt, Tell us about a time where everything you’d hoped would happen actuallydid.
Wow, this was somehow a bit of challenge to me, and that’s probably because I’ve never really thought of asking myself this kind of question, but i guess i could say that the best thing I’d ever hope for that actually happened was getting into polytechnic studies.
I’ve never really thought that i would even reach this stage, ok wait, let me just give a bit of history. I was born in (the land before time), in a generation of family, where studies wasn’t our strong forte. Most of those whom i know, close aunts and uncles, including my family, work hard after completing basic education.
Upon completing my secondary school education, i went into ITE ( Institute of Technical Education) studying IT, and also simply because i had no interest in studying all the boring subjects and to continue to take my O’levels. I choose IT simply because, it was the only thing i could have had an interest with, games, internet, i mean, and that point of time, having to learn about IT, was the in thing. I was badass with computers. The badass of all badass because computer was like my life. I would have recalled using the computer about more then 15 hours a day and other days even more, which i highly don’t recommend.
My cousin closest to me is already working off to pay the bills, and even my younger sister was working. In fact, I’m the only one of my ‘age'( okay this was 3 years ago) that should have been thinking of working, but no, i didn’t.
After i graduated from ITE, i thought that i was actually quite pleased with myself, and a lot of people were discussing about what they want to do, and it just happened that there was career fairs going around all the polytechnic schools, looking at the different courses they had to offer, and i was just trying to see if i can manage to get a spot. Back then, getting into a polytechnic school was hard enough, and most of my friends just wanted to serve National Service and then get on with work. I was thinking at the back of my mind, that if I actually can go up for further studies, it will benefit my future, and it will also break the barrier that my line of family has and for once I wanted to prove to myself and my family, that we are not just hard workers, but also smart workers.
Results came in, and i was actually admitted to Republic Polytechnic. It was one of the best things that I’ve hoped for not only because I had managed to prove it right, but also because it really change the course of my life.
And now, I’ve come to the stage of where I’ve ended my polytechnic studies, and soon be serving my National Service. I’d hope to go for university studies if possible and/or work at the same time.

I have been thinking about the 5 foods that i could use to survive on a island. To be honest I’ve never been thrown in some deserted island or pu through a position where i had to choose what kind of food there is, so i managed to actually find out more from the pro’s of survival, googled a few link’s but i think this was the most helpful.
Food for Protein : Beans help out with protein, calcium and iron, all the basic things and now they can be easily canned beans available so it’s a fast and very helpful in case of emergencies. Just gulp these down and I believe I’m good to go. Check the expiration date though.
Food for Vitamin : I’m going to go for dried fruits. Though it might not be a full satisfying meal, i believe that dried fruits such as dates and berries go all out for the vitamins that I need in order to still survive long enough.
Food for Long life span – Brown Rice. Brown rice, doesn’t last longer than normal rice, but it can be kept for quite a long time. Brown rice contains lots of fibres, and based on experience, i don’t have to eat so much of brown rice to make myself full.
Food for Long time Survival : I don’t if anyone else agrees with me on this, but I’m going to go for seed potatoes. You can actually grow a potato from a potato but having a seed potato would be the best. The average growth of a potato that’s ready is about 6 weeks, which will take awhile, but definitely worth it because it takes really little care to grow them and yet they give a lot of yield.
Last but not least : Water, some good clean water will do good until i manage to figure out how to some filtration device that helps me do some good enough water to survive as well.
There’s so many other choices that i have wanted to make and decided to choose before, but i think these are my 5 choices.
